Valley versus bluff
Chesterfield Valley sits on Missouri River alluvial deposits — deep, relatively soft, layered sediments. Structures there are more likely to see broad settlement and slab movement, and deeper piers are often required to reach competent bearing. The bluff-top neighborhoods south of the valley sit on the expansive clays and loess typical of west St. Louis County, where the dominant issue is seasonal shrink-swell around a shallower footing.
Knowing which side of that line your house is on changes what a reasonable proposal looks like. A pier depth that is normal in the valley would be unusual on the bluff, and vice versa.
